Our Village Hall continues to be used by many residents and neighbours from the surrounding district. We have managed to operate with a surplus allowing us to build up a small reserve fund over recent years. As we operate under Charity regulations we need to invest our income into services provided. Earlier in 2019 we completely refitted the toilets from our own resources. We then applied for planning permission to extend the hall all the way along the right-hand side when viewed from the front. This was granted enabling us to implement the following:
•Extend and modernise the kitchen to facilitate catering for weddings and large events.
• Add an office much needed by the committee.
• Add storage facilities, enabling regular hirers to consider keeping their equipment at the hall and to release the existing room used for storage to be used by visiting acts as a changing or holding room
•Add double glazing to the front of the building facing Hook Meadow
•Upgrade our heating and lighting systems
The cost of the project was close to £150,000. The Hall Committee contributed £25,000 from our own funds and applied for grants and this was matched from village sources of at least £50,000 by December 2019. It was a chance to invest in the Hall for present and future generations benefit.
As you can imagine, it took a lot of work, time, effort and money to get this project up and running, so a big thanks to all those helped with contributions, muscle and brain power.
